A National Research and Training Conference “Prospects for development of medical and physical rehabilitation at different levels of medical care delivery” was held in TNMU

On October 17-18, 2019, the National and International Research and Training Conference “Perspectives of Development of Medical and Physical Rehabilitation at Different Levels of Medical Care Delivery” was held in I.Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. The event was organized by the Department of Physical Therapy, Ergotherapy and Physical Education. The experts from all over Ukraine: from Kramatorsk, Rivne, Odessa, Lviv, Lutsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, etc. took part in the event. 44 scientific reports were presented and discussed at the sessions.

Professor Stepan Zaporozhan, the Vice-Rector for Science, Education and Clinical Affairs, welcomed the guests. He wished success and fruitful work to the conference participants and payed much attention to the significance of the subject of the event.

The Chief Physician of the Bilche-Zolote Regional Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Hospital, Honoured Doctor of Ukraine Liubomyr Synoverskyi welcomed all the guests and emphasized that the issue of rehabilitation and restoration of physical, psychological and social health in human life is topical worldwide at present. Liubomyr Synoverskyi noted that the Physical Therapist and Ergotherapist specialties were included in the occupational classifier, and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reorganized the existing regulatory charter to create jobs in institutions for such specialists.

Professor I.R. Mysula The started the first plenary session with a report on “Implementation of the Erasmus+ programme at TNMU – a way of implementation of European standards of education of Masters of Physical Rehabilitation”.

Professor V.M. Sokrut made a joint report of 5 researchers from different universities of Ukraine on “Veheto-Homeokinetic Theory of Health”.

Professor Hryhus I.M., the Acting Director of the Academic and Research Scientific Institute of Health, Head of the Department of Human Health and Physical Rehabilitation of the National University of Water and Environmental Management involved listeners’ attention with a report “Conceptual principles of physical rehabilitation of the patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease”.

Associate Professor of Ukrainian Research Institute of Transport Medicine Volianska V.S. reported on “Medical rehabilitation of children with diabetes mellitus type 1 with concomitant angio- and nephropathy of the lower extremities”.

Horsha O.V., Professor of the Department of Physical and Medical Rehabilitation, the Head of the Clinical Department of Medical Rehabilitation of Ukrainian Research Institute of Transport Medicine Gorsha O.V..

The Head of Volyn Center for Assistance to ATO Soldiers and Their Families and the Head of the Department of Human Health and Physical Rehabilitation of Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University Professor Liakh Yurii Yeremiiovych expanded on “Features of training of physical therapy, ergotherapy specialists” and presented his point of view of that matter.

The Assistant Professor of the Department of Physical Therapy, Ergotherapy and Physical Education of I.Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University Bai A.V. stated that physical therapy and ergotherapy are aimed at educating a new generation of specialists according to international standards to create a modern system of rehabilitation medicine in Ukraine.

Professor of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine and Phthisiology of I.Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University L.A. Hryshchuk presented a report on “Rehabilitation of tuberculosis patients, current problems”.

Congenital platypodia is a complex deficiency in which the changes in the external shape of the foot are a manifestation of pathology of the bone, joint, nervous and vascular systems of a lower extremity. Associate Professor of the Department of Children’s Diseases and Pediatric Surgery of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University M.D. Protsailo noted that conservative treatment is still the main method for idiopathic congenital platypodia in children.

The report on “Use of arterial oscilloscopy for determination of functional reserves of the circulatory system in physical therapy” was presented by Associate Professor of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation of I.Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University L.O. Vakulenko.

Professor of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University T.H. Bakaliuk expanded on the matter of “Current tendencies of cryotherapy in rehabilitation practice”.

Professor of the Department of Medical Informatics D.V. Vakulenko informed about innovative systems in physical and rehabilitation medicine.

The report "Correction of magnesium balance in medical rehabilitation and sanatorium treatment" was presented by a representative of the Ecobiz company O.A. Yanchuk; a significant need for magnesium in a human body was emphasized.

Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Rehabilitation of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University M.H. Aravitska informed on "Determining the effectiveness of a non-drug correction program for morbid obesity”.

The Head of the Physiotherapy Department and the Physical Therapy Room of Ternopil University Hospital "Modern Approaches to the Prescription and Managing Massage in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine" Briksa N.Ya. emphasized the fact that rehabilitation services are ‘gaining momentum’ and are quite a common trend. At present, Ukraine is gradually mastering the European approach to rehabilitation, and massage is still an essential method in the treatment of patients and restoration of the adaptive capacities of the human body as a whole.

At the plenary session, the conference participants were presented with a number of interesting reports.

During the conference Vakulenko L. also held a master-class on “Segmental-reflex massage in shoulder joint limited functioning of different etiology”.

Davybida N. introduced one of the exotic types of massage - a technique of fire massage that is an invaluable way of patients’ treatment, in which all the muscle groups are relaxed and the body's immune system is being fortified.

A master-class on management of pelvic organs function the in patients with brain and spinal cord damage was presented by Levkivskyi O., Rivne Rehabilitation Center.

P. Skobliak, Ternopil Regional Municipal Psychoneurological Hospital, delivered a master-class on "Restoration of the walking function after a stroke”.

A master-class by Bakaliuk T. on “Diagnostic approaches in rehabilitation of the patients with knee pathology” was very interesting.

M. Vitsentovych, the Center of Rehabilitation of Children with the Central Nervous System Damage, held a master class on the program of early intervention in pediatrics.

The National Research and Training Conference “Prospects for development of medical and physical rehabilitation at different levels of medical care delivery” has gathered the scientists from all leading institutions implementing recent rehabilitation technologies and methods for the third time.

All the participants of the conference agreed that physical and medical rehabilitation is ready for being reformed and the first steps have already been made.
